Yes, We Need Feminism

Sad that in the twenty-first century we still have to be fighting this fight because so many still do not get it.

Feminism = the radical notion that women are human beings.

We are not pieces of ass.

We are not property.

We are, but should not be, second class citizens.

We are deserving of equal opportunities and equal justice.

Why is this so hard for some to understand?

Fuck Yeah, Angus Young!

Amazing musician, amazing drawing. No, I did not draw it, Dahlings. I wish I could say I did. It was shared by Juice Box Weirdo on Facebook.

Still on the Fritz

Dahlings, the damn sound is still not working on this computer! My co-worker, Sandy Cheeks, tried to catch the I.T. guy before he went home, but she wasn't able to. Commendable effort anyway, Sandy.

I guess we'll be without sound all weekend. The KHEL 666 Facebook page is still getting videos from myself and others at other times, but things are suffering on the night shift right now!

Schooled

Can I be honest? Sure I can, it's my blog! I do not like One Percent Mitt and his arrogant attitude towards the "little people." I will not be voting for him. I haven't been 100% thrilled with Obama's performance, but I'd far rather have him back than to have Mittens in.

In my case, I usually hear buzzing, whistling, or a "pop." It feels like a "bubble" expanding in my head, and then it "bursts." Sometimes it is accompanied by a flash sensation. Unfortunately, I usually experience tinnitus following an incidence of exploding head syndrome.

I also experience sleep paralysis, and apparently the two are interconnected.

I can deal with the exploding head far better than the sleep paralysis.

Wish I could, but I can't.

What can I do?

Starting At the Beginning

Chapter I:

Meeting the Forest Dwellers

"Oh it's so cold!" Her royal highness Princess Isabella of Xiumiqa sighed rubbing her hands together for warmth. "So very very cold indeed."

The charming Princess was quite beloved by her subjects. Just 18 years old, her kindness was as legendary as her stunning slate gray eyes.

A forest green frost hung over the midnight green branches of dormant yuka trees. Isabella thought of those who lived in the frozen forest. Isabella didn't think it right for her to stay warm and sheltered when there were those who might be going hungry on this cold winter day.

The glade where a mere three weeks ago children had been playing was now a sheet of green ice. Isabella moved slowly over the slick glade. Up ahead was a tiny, ramshackle cottage made from the sturdy wood of the brownish-green Fiqual tree. Blue-gray smoke rose from the chimney. In the cabin lived a family of 5. There was a couple and their 3 children. The children really were not children any more. They were men. Isabella knew the family in the cabin to be hard-working but isolated, living on the outskirts of the kingdom. She decided to check on them.

Isabella jumped and stifled a shriek when she heard a deep voice from behind her.

"Princess, what are you doing out on such a day as this?"

Isabella turned to see the youngest brother who lived in the little cabin: 18 year old Rad. He was a kind fellow, but he quite startled her.

"I am sorry to have frightened you, Princess," Rad said. "Please come into our home. It is not a good day for you to be out walking alone."

Some people thought that Rad was ugly, but Isabella found his gentle honest manner a refreshing change from the vain suitors who oft called. Rad was a wispy, rosy-cheeked fellow. He looked as if he might blow away in a strong wind, but Isabella knew him to be surprisingly strong. Rad had red-brown hair and golden eyes. His face was slim and angular and he had a sharp, prominent nose. His teeth were slightly crooked.

Isabella followed Rad into the cabin. His mother stood beside a wood-burning stove, stirring a kettle. She smelled bread baking as well.

"Your majesty, I welcome you," Mother Kaylynn said, bowing to the princess. "Whatever brings you out on such a day as this? A storm comes."

"I wanted to be sure that the people of the forest were well provisioned and adequately sheltered for the coming storm," Isabella said.

"How kind of your Majesty," said Kaylynn. "But I fear it will not be safe for you to go home now. Are your father and brothers close, Rad?"

"Quite close, Mother. We found a Jluva in the thicket. Gudd and Rou are carrying it hence. Father is bringing the wood on the sledge."

"We saw you walking across the glade, your Majesty," Rad continued. "The others sent me ahead to bring you to our home. You must stay now."

"Oh, but I'm sure that if I hurry, I can get home before the storm," Isabella said. Then she looked out the window at the gray-green fog.

"It moved more quickly than I thought," she said, distressed. "Father and mother will be terribly worried. Curse this storm! I can't leave."

"We will get you home as soon as we can, your Majesty," Rad promised.

At that moment his brothers and father hurried into the cabin.

"Mother, we have put the Jluva in the smokehouse and strung the line between the buildings," said Gudd. "We will hie to dress the beast."

At 24, Gudd was the middle brother. The eldest brother, Rou, was 28. All the men in the family were very slender and surprisingly strong. Gudd had dark golden hair and hazel eyes. Rou was different from his brothers. He had charcoal-colored hair and gray eyes.

Kaylynn had charcoal-colored hair and eyes that were gray-green like the fog outside. Like her husband and sons she was very tall and slim.

The father, Ullv, had eyes of brilliant green, blue-black hair, and skin of a slightly greenish cast. He looked like a forest elemental.

Isabella had never really noticed these folk up close before, and she said nothing, but Ullv especially appeared to be other than human. It was only legend, of course, but her nurse had often told her tales of the forest folk. Supposedly, they had disappeared centuries ago. Could it be that the forest folk yet lived? Were Ullv and Kaylynn and their three long-limbed, slender sons in fact elven or perhaps dryads?

Isabella bade the good folk treat her as if she were a member of the family. She asked how the forest dwellers fared lately.

"We are well and happy, your Majesty--I mean, Princess Isabella," said Kaylynn. "The forest provides what we need to live."

"Dear Lady Kaylynn, while I am here, I would like to feel like a friend, not a sovereign. Please, just call me Isabella."

"All right," Kaylynn agreed. "We are very happy here, Isabella. This is a benevolent monarchy. Ullv and I have known worse."

"Is there anything that I can do to make things better?" Isabella asked. "The folk in this area are so remote from us."

"No, my girl. The land is fertile and though there is distance between neighboring houses, we help one another," said Ullv.

"There is plentiful game," said Rou. "And there is plentiful timber. We take what is needed. We have no need for grandeur."

Isabella blushed, suddenly feeling ashamed. The grand palace where she lived must seem terribly ostentatious to these folk.

As if noticing Isabella's embarrassment, Rad spoke up. "How is life in the palace? I always admire it when in the city."

"Oh, it is a grand building! I would like to take you all there sometime. I think that you would admire the stone work."

"Brother Gudd especially appreciates the different stones that the gods and goddesses of Earth have given us," Rad said.

"Yes, but do you suppose that such simple folk as ourselves would truly be welcome in the palace?" Gudd asked.

"Well, I would welcome you!" Isabella said, suddenly feeling saddened that there was such distance between royalty and folk.

"My dear, of course you would," said Kaylynn, sensing Isabella's distress. "As I said, this is a benevolent monarchy."

"But you know, sometimes royalty remains so separate from other folk," Isabella said. "Even when we have good intentions."

"We can see that you wish to remedy this situation," said Ullv. "But you must not let eagerness get the better of sense."

"I fear I did just that today," Isabella said, looking at her feet. "I felt that the forest folk might need provisions. Oh, I so hope that my father did not send soldiers to look for me--or that he did not come himself!"

Kaylynn took a shallow bowl carved of delicate pink stone from her cupboard. She poured in a drop of taupe-colored liquid. She sprinkled shimmery dark-blue dust over the syrupy liquid, poured water into the bowl, and stirred with a wand.

"This is the bowl of Gqa from the Valley of Mxcd," she said. "In it is sap from the Tree of Frup and sand from Tvug."

"The Valley of Mxcd was destroyed 1100 years ago!" Isabella gasped. "And I thought that Frup and Tvug were places of myth."

"Well, the bowl has been in my family for generations," said Kaylynn. "As to the others, they are more magic than myth. Dip your fingers into the bowl and it will allow us to see visions of the things that concern you most greatly."

Isabella did as she was bidden. She gasped as she saw her parents, four brothers, and seven sisters. They were weeping.

"Oh, the foolish, foolish girl!" Isabella could hear her mother's voice echoing in her ears. "Why must she be so impulsive?"

"There, there, Mother," said Isabella's eight-year-old sister Tabea. "Surely she is staying with one of the farm families."

Isabella began to weep as well. "Dear Tabi, wise beyond her years," she sniffled. "I cause nothing but pain to my family."

"Tabi is right, Gyta," Isabella's father said. "Surely she sought shelter at one of the farms. She'll return soon, I know."

"And when she does," he continued, "I will forbid her from going to the wilds again. It is time that she chose a husband."

The images in the bowl clouded. The water within the bowl turned black and began to swirl and heave like a storm at sea.

"Oh my! Oh, what have I done?" Isabella gasped.

"The bowl has sensed the trouble in your heart, dear girl," said Kaylynn.

"I can understand my father being upset with me," said Isabella, "but to be forbidden to return to this land would kill me."

"It is clear that you love this land, and that you love your family," said Ullv. "The steward of this land is a lazy sod."

"There is no reason why our land could not have a stewardess who cares for the people," said Rou. "This could be your duty."

"I would love that more than anything," said Isabella. "But my father is set on me marrying a prince of a neighbor kingdom."

"Do you have sisters old enough and willing enough to wed these princes?" Rad asked. "It seems that you have many siblings."

"I do," said Isabella. "My eldest sister is married. The triplets are not, but they were adopted and thus are not eligible."

"My other sisters, besides the triplets, are also young," Isabella sighed. "Ebba is 12 and Yana just had her first birthday party."

"The triplet sisters are ineligible for being adopted? This is terrible!" said Rou. "In our land, all children are equal."

"Rou, hold your tongue," said Kaylynn. "It is bad manners to insult the ways of our guest's family."

"Apologies," said Rou.

"None required," said Isabella. "I am in agreement with you. The triplets are 29, and all very willing to take a husband."

"Perhaps if we explain to your father what a good stewardess you already are to this land, he will see your way," said Ullv.

"You would do that for me? Oh thank you!" said Isabella. "Perhaps he will hear you. You are a man near to his own age."

"We will return you to your family tonight," said Ullv. "It would not do to have your mother so terribly worried for you."

"But how can we?" Isabella asked. "The storm is so terrible. Surely we would lose our way and end up frozen to death."

"We can with the Lamp of Zacag," said a grinning Rad. He doused the other lamps in the room. The magical lamp glowed gray.

Sound still Broken

Hello KHEL 666 Krew! I know it's my turn on deck, but the sound is still broken on the work computer, which is where I do most of my "broadcasting" from for the KHEL 666 blog and Facebook page. Apologies, hopefully the situation can be remedied soon. In the meantime I still have some rants, and if all goes well, a new chapter of A Princess of Xiumiqa.

Your Cheatin' Heart

So, here's my rant, as promised.

Kristin Stewart was caught cheating on Rob Pattinson with Rupert Sanders, who is the director of Snow White and the Huntsman. He's married.

Kristin says: "I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused...it jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."

Sanders says he is "utterly distraught about the pain" he caused his "beautiful wife and heavenly children," and said he is "praying" that they can get through it together."

Tempest says: If they did it before, they'll do it again. Maybe not with each other, but with someone else. Once a cheater, always a cheater. Their respective partners would do well to tell them to take a hike.

Some have said that since Sanders and Stewart were only caught kissing that isn't really cheating. Bullshit. If I'm in an exclusive relationship with a man and he's sticking his tongue down another woman's throat, that's cheating. And eventually it will progress to other things.

What Kristin is saying is that she's sorry she got caught. What Sanders is praying is that his wife divorce him and stick it to him financially.

If these two end up together, they deserve each other. Once a cheater, always a cheater. It would just be a race to see which of them was the first to cheat again.

NOOOOOOO!

There is no sound on this bloody computer--none at all! There is no output device. I have to call IT, and they won't be able to do anything about it till tomorrow. NOOOOOOOOO!!!! Oh, Gods!

Getting Experimental

Dearest KHEL 666 Krew, Posterous has been quirky over the past couple of days. They have been having server issues. I can't guarantee that all the posts will go through to our main blog, but you are welcome to check out our Facebook page.

We're going to play some Inspired by Dio type Fantasy Metal tonight. Hopefully I'll be able to get some good writing done on A Princess of Xiumiqa, and I hope you enjoy the selections!

The Truth, Simplified

Let me just simplify this shit for you bitches. It just does not get better than Quorthon and Bathory. Period. Fucking miss him. It's a huge drag that he died at such a young age. Heart disease does not discriminate based on age.

Rare Musical Gold

Quorthon was better known for his dark, aggressive metal style, but he was a big fan of the Beatles. I never thought I'd say this about the sinister genius behind Bathory, but this is quite charming.

Hey Scouts, Wake Up!

So, the Boy Scouts of America continues to enforce their ban on gay boys.

Why do they not want gay boys to learn good values? What an awful thing. The only thing I can think is that they have this idea in their head that the gay guys are going to be trying to molest or seduce their straight companions, which of course is totally ridiculous. My son is a former scout. He's straight, which means nothing one way or the other, except it's somewhat relevant to this story. On school trips at a school that taught tolerance, mind, he was the only one who would room with the openly gay kid. Everyone else was apparently afraid that they would catch the gay cooties, or wake up with the guy in the bed next to them. Glad I raised my son smarter than that.

It's the Size of her Voice that Matters

It disgusts me that people ripped on Ann Wilson about her weight to the point where she went and got her stomach cinched off to a small pouch (lap band surgery) because of the ignorant comments from shallow morons.

Who the fuck cares what Ann (or anyone else) weighs? The current size bias is a product of the multi BILLION dollar diet industry, which makes its money off encouraging people to hate themselves.

If diets worked, there wouldn't be so fucking many of them.

Ann is amazing. When I listen to Heart, I am hearing Ann's voice. I am not thinking about "wow, I wonder what number that fat bitch is tipping the scales at." You know why I'm not? Because that would make me a putz.

Here's Dreamboat Annie for you bitches. Because I'm cool like that.

Revolver

Gonna share one of my favorite albums with you bishes. Because I'm cool like that.

The Truth about Mornings

Betrayed

This picture comes from this website, which has some very important information on violence in teen relationships.

I chose it because to a degree it expresses what I feel inside.

Because of the fact that nobody pays attention to what I say at this point, I feel comfortable expressing something that has been eating at me for years.

There are people in this world who don't feel like they've won unless they've destroyed someone else in the process.

They did come very close to destroying me. But I'm still here. Not unscathed by any means, but I am still here.

I no longer feel like I have something special to share with the world. I'm creating again, but I'm keeping it close in. I will not be sharing any of it.

As for the subject of my ill advised book.

Yes, I did come to love him. And fancy that, certain people who I trusted with that truth were hell bent on fucking that up for me too.

He and I are no longer in contact with one another. He hates me now, and I feel nothing but numb sorrow when I think of him.

You think I could ever forgive the people who brought this about?

They will never be forgiven.

What's next to the moon? The idea that I will ever find love.

Correction--that's somewhere in another fucking galaxy.

So now you fucking know.

Alternative Disney Princesses

This was made and shared by Nona Bau.

I think Disney should also make a spirited fat princess. Because it took me half my life to learn that fat does not mean ugly. I was an active little chubby girl, but all anyone ever noticed was the chubby part. I come from a chubby family. My mom didn't let us have candy except on Halloween, Christmas, and Easter. Our meals were meat, potatoes, and vegetables as well as a salad. The only snacks we were allowed were fruit or cheese and crackers. If we had dessert, it was something like apple cobbler. We hardly ever had fast food. Everything was made from scratch, and was good, healthy, basic food.

My parents really didn't give me and my siblings a hassle about being chubby. It was the kids at school. If I was seen eating anything--even a carrot--I could be sure that someone would moo or oink at me. I don't think it should come as any surprise that I became bulimic in my teens.

Fat does not mean lazy and it doesn't mean ugly. People come in different shapes and sizes. It's time we as a society stopped encouraging a good half of the population to hate themselves.

Oreo Featuring Scratch: On Forever

Something refreshing in the world of hip hop. Two young guys doing what they love, talking about what has meaning to them. No bullshit blingity bling or trying to prove whose the baddest. Just two people, getting by in a tough world. These are the kind of people you could sit down and talk to in real life. I hope they keep it real. Good work, guys!

The Bitch is Back

Hi friends. I decided to follow in the footsteps of my writing sisters and make one of these spaces so I don't fall behind the times. So, here I am.

As many of you know, my brother Adam Everhard's and my father died on the night of July 8. He had a serious heart attack two days before my birthday. His heart was badly damaged. Because of his age (and the fact that he isn't Dick Cheney and can't pull those kinds of strings) he was not a candidate for a transplant, which is really the only thing that could have saved him. So he went into congestive heart failure, and he died.

Dad's body was cremated and we will have a memorial service tomorrow evening. It will probably be a lot more sentimental than he would have liked. Dad was very pragmatic. I'm not sure how he ended up with a couple of wet blankets like Adam and me. Our eldest sister is a lot more like he was. Mom isn't a particularly sentimental person either.

I just know I'm not going to sleep well tonight. I'm glad that I have a husband who understands my weirdness and doesn't tell me how I should be.

You have not ceased to exist, Dad, you have just flown beyond the horizon where we can't see you any more in this life. But we will see you again.

We love you.

Black Bottom

For those who know me, you may be surprised that it isn't a post with some Phantom Man-Ass for your viewing pleasure. It's a song!

I love the Troggs, but I can't remember ever hearing this song before. Love it, and the video too. I also love black bottom pie. There used to be a great place that served it but they went out of business. It's hard to find it in this neck of the woods. Guess I'd have to drive all the way to Texas to get me some that was made right.

31 Years ago Today

July 16, 1981

My brother and I were up at the crack of noon, like usual. He was seventeen, I was fifteen. My nineteen year old sister had just left for her job at Dairy Queen, and Hank and I figured we'd go to the pool, then go see Ursula and get some ice cream and piss her off because we got to go to the pool and she didn't. Pretty typical summer day.

At two o clock, everything went to hell.

Mom came to the pool in a panic, screaming that Dad had been in an accident and was at the hospital.

He was dead on arrival.

The guy driving the pickup truck was going close to 100 miles an hour. He was on the wrong side of the road to pass the car in front of him. Turned out that he'd been drinking and tooting up. He went to jail for 13 years. I try not to even think about him. I don't know where he is and I don't want to know. It wouldn't help me to know.

Dad was riding his motorcycle. He was wearing his helmet. But when you get clipped by a vehicle going that fast, it doesn't help.

I always thought about how Dad's death didn't make much difference in the scheme of things. He was just another blue collar worker, a forklift operator. He never went to college. He and Mom had my sister right out of high school. They were only 18 years old, twenty when my brother came along, and then 22 when I arrived. We lived in a little suburban house that my parents did their best to make nice. We were nobody, but when that one average Joe died, the world went to hell for four people.

Hank tried to suck it up and be the man of the house. I resented him telling me what to do. Ursula had already been bossy, but now my best buddy was trying to act like my father. I did my damndest to let him know that he wasn't.

I became a handful, and I feel bad about it now. I started cutting myself. My mom, brother and sister didn't understand. They didn't handle it very well, but back then people weren't given a lot of guidance. Things are getting better, but there's still a long way to go.

I will never forget the way I felt on that day. The world stood still and I wished the everything would just be erased, because I didn't want anything to exist if my dad was gone.

It was like standing in the middle of a tornado and just wanting to yell "stop!"

But it didn't stop.

I did a lot of drugs and drank a lot to try and get it to stop. It would slow down for a while. But partying isn't going to take away the pain. It just numbs it for a time.

It took me a long time to get my shit together. I'm still flying by the seat of my pants a lot of the time, but at least I have some kind of an idea.

My dad never made it to 40. I'm almost ten years older than he was when he was taken.

That's kind of a weird thought.

I've come to terms with what happened as best I can. This morning I had the thought that Dad is just chilling in Heaven waiting for the rest of us. He's playing a few hands of poker and drinking some beers with the other angels. That's the kind of guy he was. That would be his kind of Heaven.

I'll be seeing you again, Dad. I know I will.

Wishes for a Good Week from Me to You

Treat Me How You'd Like to be Treated

Summertime

Janis and Jimi together!

Dedicating One to the Backstabbers

You got a lotta nerve

To say you are my friend

When I was down

You just stood there grinning

 You got a lotta nerve

To say you got a helping hand to lend

You just want to be on

The side that’s winning

You say I let you down

You know it’s not like that

 If you’re so hurt

Why then don’t you show it

You say you lost your faith

But that’s not where it’s at

You had no faith to lose

And you know it

I know the reason

That you talk behind my back

I used to be among the crowd

You’re in with

Do you take me for such a fool

To think I’d make contact

With the one who tries to hide

What he don’t know to begin with

You see me on the street

You always act surprised

You say, “How are you?”

 “Good luck”

But you don’t mean it

When you know as well as me

You’d rather see me paralyzed

Why don’t you just come out once

And scream it

No, I do not feel that good

When I see the heartbreaks you embrace

If I was a master thief

Perhaps I’d rob them

And now I know you’re dissatisfied

With your position and your place

Don’t you understand

 It’s not my problem

I wish that for just one time

You could stand inside my shoes

And just for that one moment

 I could be you

Yes, I wish that for just one time

You could stand inside my shoes

You’d know what a drag it is

To see you

So--Got Any Friends Left, Asshole?

I hadn't thought of this particular jackass in a long time, but a couple of years ago there was a friend who suddenly turned into a total asshole. He was more a friend of a friend, and when the friend in the middle called him out on his behavior, he turned against her. She was a lot more hurt than I was, as they had been friends for a long time. From what I've heard, he's pretty well driven everyone away with his behavior. Sometimes karma is pretty swift. Pathetic little man anyway.

I'm Fat--So What?

So, there's an advertisement in the Facebook sidebar screaming "Tired of being FAT???" With Fat in capital letters, because it's so...LARGE!

Actually, I don't care that much about being fat. I'm tired of having to have dialysis because of my kidney problems. If I was fat and otherwise healthy, who really gives a rip?

Aren't there real problems in the world for us to worry about, rather than all trying to achieve some impossible idea.

Don't worry--be happy with your fat self!

Sympathy for Emo Kids

Emo is a "scene," and there is a certain style that goes along with it. People who identify as Emo like listening to variants on music which has emotive and often depressive lyrics.

Here is an example.

Check out Escape The Fate – Massacre http://www.last.fm/music/Escape+The+Fate/_/Massacre via @lastfm

People who identify as Emo tend to get put down, sneered at for being fake depressives.

Might it not be that the emo "scene" has a draw for the type of person who tends to be depressive?

These young people hear the same shit that I heard growing up as a person who had emotional problems.

"Attention seeking."

"Drama Queen."

"Just do it right next time." (after cutting my wrist)

I honestly don't give two fucks about any particular "scene." Wear your hair how you want. Wear what clothes you want. I don't care.

I don't know if I could pick out an "Emo" song from any other song that I happened to like, unless I was listening to last.fm and the song was tagged Emo. It really doesn't matter to me what label is given to a song. If I like it, I like it.

I've also discovered that I tend to like the "Emo Kids" that I've come into contact with. Some of them are depressive and hypersensitive--like I am, if I'm to be honest. But some of them are simply sensitive, deep thinking, and artistic.

Hating on "Emo Kids" just because it's cool to hate on Emo Kids is just as stupid as hating on any other subculture of people just because it's cool to hate on them. If you're scapegoating someone, then you need to check yourself. You're the one with the problem.

Cheer up, Emo Kids. This old fart is in your corner!

Here's another song for you.

Hard Alternative

So to cover up the sound of my tootin', I figured I'd share some heavy alt rock with my dear KHEL 666 Krew. Just be glad that smells don't transmit over the Internet!

Follow along on our blog or our Facebook page, if you dare!

No, I'm not waking up the elderly. I'm in a remote office and I don't blast the system. If the folks need me, they page. It's a pretty cool job, really.

Uh-Oh...

Forgot my Beano, and I'm eating leftover nachos with--you guessed it--beans!

Folks here at the old Assisted Living better hope they don't have to call me for anything tonight!

I love the Internet--you can share whatever foul body functions happen to present themselves.
