In the unlikely event that I ever actually get with a guy again, there are certain criteria that must be met.
If a dude doesn't like cats, it doesn't matter how fine he is to look at. He ain't the one for me.

Black cats were not always thought of as bad luck. This unfortunate idea was perpetuated during the Middle Ages. Many innocent cats were cruelly murdered because of it. To this day, it is harder for black cats to get adopted. I have two, and while they have sadly not brought me prosperity, they certainly have brought no bad luck.
This one looks a lot like my Beast when I first saw him, although in much better shape.
I used to volunteer at the local animal shelter. I still help out there when I can, although I no longer have time to do it on a regular basis.
A tiny black kitten was brought in by a good Samaritan. It had been hit by a car.
The veterinarian was going to euthanize him, but I said that I would pay for his medical care. There was just something about him.
He lived and has thrived. His neck tilts a little to the left side. His meow is more a "meeyargle," and hearing him when he gets pissed off at something outside is a fascinating experience. He drools a bit. But he is happy and I'm glad that I saved him.
I'm so grateful for our cats' caregiver, who will be staying with them over the next couple of days. Mom lives just far enough away that it's a pain in the ass to drive back and forth on a daily basis, although it could be done. I just don't feel right about leaving a special needs cat in a situation where the caregiver comes in and out. Susan is able to stay overnight, and we are SO GLAD we found her!
If I was stupid enough to ever date again--which, believe me, I'm not--and I was dating a guy who said that he hated cats, that would be a deal breaker. Fifteen years ago, I ended up dating a sworn "cat hater," and I was so desperate that I didn't get rid of him right away like my gut was telling me. He ended up raping me.
People who don't like animals ain't good people.
