Amazons: The Ladies and the River
Etymology Gal explains how the Amazon River got its name, and gives us a little history of the warrior women.
There are a lot of Axe Man groupies in this video!
In modern times, "Amazon" is often used to describe a strong female who is probably larger than the average woman.
In a scenario from our Crazy Fanfic Mashup blog, Bill Hudson says of Ellen Ripley:
""Don't tell her I said this or she'll probably kick my ass, but even though she's this tough Amazon woman who could stomp someone's head in if she needed to, she's one of the most totally vulnerable people I've ever met."
Ellen Ripley (portrayed by Sigourney Weaver) is around six feet tall, which is much taller than the average woman. The character is a reluctant warrior who would really rather be left alone to live her life in peace, as opposed to a character such as Xena the Warrior Princess, who seeks action, adventure, and ass-kicking.
Little bit of fangirl geekage for y'all there!
I hope you've been enjoying these Word Nerd videos. I've enjoyed sharing them.

Oh Shit!

Some doofus made the mistake of supplying this cake at the wedding of Ellen Ripley and Dwayne Hicks. (If you don't know, Google it. I refuse to make it easy. Then go say a thousand Hail Marys and hit yourself--hard--as penance for your sins.) They flipped out and blasted it with flame throwers and grenades.
(Because yeah, Bitches, that's a couple that should have been together. That third movie never happened. One of the characters was just suffering from the ill effects of a piece of undigested space meat loaf.)
Thanks to Cthulhu Hand Luke for sharing this picture.

Damn You, Cie Cheesemeister!
My super awesome writing sister, the one and only, the incomparable Cie Cheesemeister, has been working on a super cool top secret project that she's let me see while it's in process! Whoo Hoo!
The Cheese is a total sci fi geek.
I hadn't seen the movie Aliens in years.
Then she created some crazy posts involving the characters from that movie.
If you want to see them, ask. I'm not giving the URL to just anybody. The Cheese is kind of a sensitive soul, though she seems like a thick skinned curmudgeon until you get to know her. She's been a bit vulnerable for a while now, and I'm not going to play any part in having her get hurt.
Still, The Cheese is an evil, evil woman who drew me down into the vortex of damn silliness and made me act like this:

I'd forgotten how totally smoking hot this guy is:

He's still got it goin' on too.

Anyway, so then this happened:

It's all your fault, Cie Cheesemeister! If I hadn't watched that movie, my pants would still be with me!
All kidding and foolishness aside, The Cheese's new project is totally awesome and she's working up to being one hell of a photoshop maestro!
Keep it up, Sis!
