The One Who Waits for Me by Lori Copeland

Lori Copeland is a Christian romance author. Even though I'm sort of a mystic/metaphysical agnostic, I don't mind stories with religious overtones as long as they aren't too heavy-handed. This novel, while written by someone for whom religion is a major aspect of her life, is more focused on the story than on attempting to make others believe as the writer does. The author develops her characters with love for each of them, and has created a beautifully written historical romance.
If you enjoy romance novels, particularly historical romance, and won't be disappointed if the story doesn't have any explicit sex scenes, you might enjoy Ms. Copeland's works.

KHEL 666 Information: Biology of the Human Eye

I wanted to post a response to Tempest's video share about how to perform a physical exam. I found this video describing the structure of the eye in lay-person's terms. It contains a lot of pretty imagery.
The comments suggestion makes me fear for the state of humanity. How does a discussion of video about the structure of the eye devolve into some sort of verbal holy war?
Never mind, here are The Doors to make it all better.

Theme Thursday: Hair

Some people don't approve of Lady Gaga because she does outrageous things sometimes. But here, she does something really nice for a fellow who lost his best friend to cancer. She's a good person at heart. We all need to cut each other a little slack before we judge.

~DJ Tempest~

This is a response to a Theme Thursday prompt.

Hair (Lady Gaga)

Whenever I'm dressed cool my parents put up a fight
And if I'm hot shot, mom will cut my hair at night
And in the morning I'm short of my identity
I scream, "Mom and dad, why can't I be who I wanna be, to be?"

I just wanna be myself and I want you to love
Me for who I am
I just wanna be myself and I want you to know
I am my hair

I've had enough, this is my prayer
That I'll die livin' just as free as my hair
I've had enough, this is my prayer
That I'll die livin' just as free as my hair

I've had enough, I'm not a freak
I just keep fightin' to stay cool on the streets
I've had enough, enough, enough
And this is my prayer, I swear

I'm as free as my hair
I'm as free as my hair
I am my hair
I am my hair

Free as my hai-ai-air
Hai-ai-air, hair
Free as my hai-ai-air
Hai-ai-air, hai-ai-air

Sometimes I want some raccoon or red highlights
Just because I want my friends to think I'm dynamite
And on Friday, Rock City High School dance
I've got my bangs to hide that I don't stand a chance, a chance

I just wanna be myself and I want you to love
Me for who I am
I just wanna be myself and I want you to know
I am my hair

I've had enough, this is my prayer
That I'll die livin' just as free as my hair
I've had enough, this is my prayer
That I'll die livin' just as free as my hair

I've had enough, I'm not a freak
I just keep fightin' to stay cool on the streets
I've had enough, enough, enough
And this is my prayer, I swear

I'm as free as my hair
I'm as free as my hair
I am my hair
I am my hair

Free as my hai-ai-air
Hai-ai-air, hair
Free as my hai-ai-air
Hai-ai-air, hai-ai-airr

I just want to be free, I just want to be me
And I want lots of friends that invite me to their parties
Don't want to change and I don't want to be ashamed
I'm the spirit of my hair, it's all the glory that I bear

I'm my hair, I am my hair
I'm my hair, I am my hair
I am my hair, I am my hair, I am my hair
It's all the glory that I bear

I'm my hair, I am my hair
It's all the glory that I bear
I'm my hair, I am my hair
I'm my hair, yeah, yeah

It's all the glory that I bear
I'm my hair, yeah, yeah
It's all the glory that I bear
I'm my hair, yeah, yeah
It's all the glory that I bear
I'm my hair, yeah, yeah

I've had enough, this is my prayer
That I'll die livin' just as free as my hair
I've had enough, this is my prayer
That I'll die livin' just as free as my hair

I've had enough, I'm not a freak
I just keep fightin' to stay cool on the streets
I've had enough, enough, enough
And this is my prayer, I swear

I'm as free as my hair
I'm as free as my hair
I am my hair, I am my hair
Ooh, I'm my hair, I'm my hair

Full Physical Exam Guide

As a nurse who got my license three years ago but is still working as an aide (sigh) I like to brush up on the stuff that I learned in school but really haven't had a chance to use in practice. This one was made for doctors, but it isn't significantly different than the one for nurses. If you are a medical professional of any kind, you may find this useful.

Deconstructing Pac Man Feat. Goldie Everything Real

This is my reaction to hearing the above song and viewing the video for the first time.

The song has a good sound. Perhaps it's not conventionally acceptable for an old fart like me to like a new hip-hop tune like this one, but I really don't care about conventions. The song has a slow, smooth groove blending with edgy lyrics.
Unfortunately, the subject matter is, overall, uninspiring. I am all about people expressing solidarity. Never did care for the "pro-gangsta" vibe in some hip-hop tunes, although I do understand the reason behind it. Actually, the reason isn't even so much the fact that the artists are expressing what it's like to live in the ghetto or projects. This was originally the case. Then, record companies took over and exploited and glamorized gang culture.
I'm not going to delve deeper into this factor as there are others who can explain it far better than I can. I'm an outsider looking in. I've never been involved in either gang culture or the recording industry.
I always think its a positive thing when artists of different racial backgrounds come together on a project.
One of the dancers in the video is a larger woman. This isn't something that one sees very often.
Not all of the women in the video are scantily dressed.
However...
There is at least one mostly naked model with extremely large, silicone enhanced breasts. I don't know if she's a current porn star, as I don't keep up with "who's who" in pornography. The general vibe I get is the "we can get with porn stars" idea. So don't care, Fellows. Treating women like props has been done and overdone.
There are scenes where the band members are sitting with fully clothed women on a bed and not behaving in a sexual fashion with said women. It's a "hanging with our homegirls" vibe, and I like that well enough. What I don't care for is the fact that, as with so many videos, the women are props rather than partners.
If you like this sort of music, you'll likely enjoy the song. Overall, everything that's been done in the video has been done before. It's a trite, tired way of treating women. Yeah, you're in a band, you can get tail. And just like every young dude before you, you see the need to brag about it. Same old story. Moving on.
A word to the wise: avoid the comments on this one; they're odious. I'm sure this surprises no-one, given that it's You Tube.

Semi Trailer vs. Chock

Here's something for you motorheads. They're testing to see how much force it takes for this semi trailer to run over a chock.

In my neck of the woods, we have some steep mountain roads which require runaway truck ramps. Here, a driver tests a runaway truck ramp in North Bay, Ontario. One can imagine that if a driver was forced to pull over to do repairs or wait for a tow on one of these steep roads, having a good chock would be essential.
Since I mentioned Motörhead, I'd better play some. Wouldn't want you fiends going riot on me!
Several bands have covered this iconic slab of metal glory. I like Satyricon's cover.

I also enjoy Sepultura's cover. What's not to like?

Hope you liked this little ramble from heavy metal on 18 wheels to heavy metal on guitar, bass, and drums with accompanying gravely vocals!

Addendum:
I left this comment on the Satyricon video. I know I'm wasting my proverbial breath, pissing into the wind, leading a dead horse to water, and trying to talk sense to fools, but it needed to be said.

I should never be surprised at the level of stupidity of You Tube comments. They truly reach a new low. Someone doesn't agree with you? Call them a homo or fag, because being a homosexual is teeotally grody, like ew for shure! Or the comment that you don't like the original version by Motorhead because Lemmy "grosses you out." In other words, you only want to listen to bands that look good to you, which isn't shallow at all.
Being a little older, I remember listening to the original version. Such amazing, hard music could not be ignored, and the lyrics are actually intelligent and thought-provoking. I like a good party song, but I really appreciate something that makes me think. Lemmy may not be the best looking guy in the world, but I don't listen only to music by guys whom I find "hot." I listen to music I find good, period. It could be played by Jabba the Hut and a band of Juiblex, and I would still listen.
This is a great cover. The Sepultura cover is also great. Both Satyricon and Sepultura are true to the spirit of the original song but put their own unique twist on it. That's what makes a great cover.
The original will always rise to the top for me, but that doesn't negate the worth of the newer renditions.
I know this final thought will be ignored and/or ridiculed, because, You Tube, but couldn't we all just listen to and appreciate the music and stop looking for reasons to bandy about schoolyard insults?

Mini Piano Lesson: Heart and Soul

It's been so many years since I've touched the piano. I always loved to play but was never very good. Eventually, I gave up. It's literally been more than 20 years since I played. I have a beautiful Korg in my storage unit. I sometimes think of getting it out, but feel such a sense of trepidation when I know how rusty I'll sound.

A Trio of Dicks: Zombie Funtage

Two necessary points:
1) This is not politically correct
2) It is not to be taken seriously

If you like zombie games and South Park's brand of humor, you might enjoy wasting 20 minutes watching these guys shoot zombies, and make low-rent jokes.

Ten Novels About Austria-Hungary with the Blue Danube Waltz

This video has several positive points. First, there is the vibrant Blue Danube by Johann Strauss II, one of my favorite pieces of music.
Second, one receives synopses of several wonderful books.
Third, one receives a mini history lesson with the book synopses.
I always enjoy discovering unique little videos such as this one, which provide an opportunity for learning.

"The Waltons" Actors Interview Their Real Life Counterparts

I found this little gem that I thought some of you other fans of classic TV might enjoy.
The weird, psychedelic pattern across some of their faces during some points of the program combined with their somewhat stilted delivery adds a bit of a cheesy, classic sci-fi flavor. Somehow I was reminded of watching Mars Attacks.

Customizing Headlights for Your Muscle Car

An *ahem* ENLIGHTENING video for those of you who are adept at customizing your classic muscle car.
(Ducks rotten fruit being thrown at head.)
I always wanted to own a muscle car. I thought they were so cool. My practical father (R.I.P.) would have none of it, though. I had a nice, non-descript second-hand Audi, which Dad got for $500 from a handyman friend of his. I have to admit, that car was well built. I kept it for another 8 years after graduating high school, at which point it got traded in for a mini van, as by then I had three kids.
I still think back on those daydreams of youth. I wanted to take auto shop so I could work on my dream muscle car, but in those days, girls didn't take auto shop. (I graduated high school in 1982.) My father actually taught me a few basic things, like changing the oil, checking the fluid levels, filling the tires, and changing a tire. But auto shop was not a "thing" for girls.
Maybe once my brother and I are retired, we'll buy ourselves a couple of muscle cars and let the younger generation laugh at us and accuse us of having a mid-life crisis as we have fun working on them.
