Song Lyric Sunday on Monday: Train Train

Since I love Rickey Medlocke, we just won't go into what I think about his reforming the band as a Blackfoot cover band without a single original member after having lawyers send cease and desist letters to the band's original surviving members aside from himself, ordering them to stop using the name. Sorry, Rickey, but not cool.
Oops, guess I went there.

Train Train was written by Rickey's grandfather, Shorty Medlocke (1910 - 1982), who was a great blues and bluegrass musician.

Oh, here it comes

Well, train, train, take me on out of this town
Train, train, Lord, take me on out of this town
Well, that woman I'm in love with, Lord, she's Memphis bound

Well, leavin' here, I'm just a raggedy hobo
Lord, I'm leaving here, I'm just a raggedy hobo
Well, that woman I'm in love with, Lord, she's got to go

Well, goodbye pretty mama, get yourself a money man
Goodbye, pretty mama, Lord, get yourself a money man
You take that midnight train to Memphis
Lord, leave if you can
Oh, take that midnight train to Memphis
Lord, leave if you can

Oh, take that train, baby

Wiz Khalifa is a D-O-G

I'm not one for making fun of people's looks, and I'm not, in fact making fun of Wiz Khalifa's looks. I'm just wondering what the hell she ever saw in his skanky azz. Skanky is an attitude, and he radiates it like nobody's business.

Darlin', you can do better.

Five UN Friday

Click the Big Five to play along.

I read a poem about unrequited love, and when I saw the Five on Friday prompt, I thought of several songs that have a word beginning with "un" in the title. So today I present Five Un Friday for your listening pleasure. Enjoy!

Justin Bieber Down in Hollywood

So, first we have the Justin Bieber video, Boyfriend, for your listening and viewing pleasure or displeasure. Just bear with me on this.

It's a catchy enough song and he has a pleasant voice. But him trying to look "street" does inspire the eye roll. Bitch, please. You've never lived in a rough neighborhood one day in your life. I don't know that the video was his idea, but it makes him look rather silly.

Now, let Ry Cooder and friends tell you all what would happen to Justin if he ever really was fool enough to try and show his "street cred" down in the 'hood.

Unfortunately the Old School Cool VHS tape was a little shaky. Still, if you love the real, authentic blues sound, you'll put up with it.

And Now For Something That Rocks (And Plays the Blues): Mark Evans

Last month, I ended up making the disappointing discovery that one of my longtime heroes was not at all worthy of the title. I really don't like slamming people, and I'm still dismayed by what I found out about that person. I much prefer to talk about the times when I can say "this person really is cool."

That is certainly the case with Mark Evans, who was the bassist on two of AC/DC's early albums. That Mark should not have been included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction is unconscionable. I like and respect Angus and Malcolm Young, but for them to continue to bear a grudge against Mark after all these years for what amount to misunderstandings and youthful slips of the tongue, while drunk nonetheless, is ridiculous.

Mark is the real deal. He is a genuine, honest person with no huge, puffed-up ego. He's been through hell and back. He lost his eldest daughter in a terrible accident. She was killed by a truck while standing on a street corner in Amsterdam, making a call to her employer to let them know she'd be a little late to work.

Mark has written an autobiography. You can find out more on the Facebook page. Also, check out his site, Mark Evans Blues.

It's a much better feeling to be able to say "see, I knew this person was the real thing!" than to have to say "damn, I really got fooled with that one." Thanks, Mark, for being one of the best. Rock on!
