Chillin' Like A Hypomanic Villain

Greetings, KHEL 666 Krazies! I really loved the Smooth Jazz theme that my writing sis, H.P. LIebekraft was rolling with the other night, and I wanna get that going on again. You can follow along on our blog or on our Facebook page, should you care to.

I have been crazy creative lately, but it's hard to focus. I wish I could turn up the creativity without turning up the restlessness. It's been hard to sleep.

Couch Cushions

Wildfires and Bullshit

This is going on close to home for me. It is the Waldo Canyon fire near Colorado Springs. I'm not close enough where I feel in danger of losing my home. There are currently five wildfires being fought here in Colorado, and I smelled the smoke last night. Our state is bone dry.

On one line of the MSNBC News, you get a link to this. This is important. It impacts people's lives.

On the second line you get a link to an article about Paula Deen's weight loss. And why is the reaction to that anything other than WHO GIVES A SHIT?

With all the dangerous fuckery that goes on in the world, you'd think we wouldn't have time to worry about the size of another person's ass. Yet people as a whole, at least in America, constantly think that it is our business to judge another person, not based on their actions but based on the size of their body.

Come the fuck on.

People are losing their homes to wildfires. In other parts of the world, people are losing their lives because of famine and war. In certain areas, people of certain ethnicities or women are not allowed to have education or opportunities.

I do not give a flying fuck about the size of Paula Deen's or anyone else's ass, and neither should you.

Movie Review: Insidious

2011PG-13102 minutes

Believing their home is haunted, a suburban schoolteacher and his wife uproot their family and move to a new place hoping to leave the evil spirits behind -- only to discover that the house wasn't haunted ... but their eldest son is.

Most terrifying film since the Exorcist? Hardly. Things jumping out at me from the dark are going to make me jump, but it takes a lot more than cheesy CGI spooks to scare this old horror hack.

Excellent atmospheric creepiness and good acting make this one reasonably enjoyable to watch, although the movie is filled with tropes. The disjointed script and far too many instances of characters Acting Appropriately Stupid become annoying at times. It was a fun diversion, but I was glad I didn't pay to watch it in a theatre.

Per the Netflix rating system, I gave this one three stars. I liked it more than I disliked it, but there was nothing about it that made me really like it.

Open Minded Christianity

Don't judge me and I won't judge you (christian,scientist)

Don't Judge

The True Me

The first three words I saw were "Crush Fool Men."

Sadly, I tend to "crush" hard when I do let myself get "fooled" by a man.

Which is why I don't let myself "crush" any more.

Fun is fun, and done is done. Since I'm the one that always gets "done," it ain't fun.

How...Posterous!

So many things have happened in the world of my Writing Sisters since I've been gone! We lost the ability to use the Ping service for our exciting KHEL 666 Radio Station Blog. It seemed like KHEL 666 might be no more except on Facebook, and that would have sucked. But then my brilliant Writing Sis, H.P. Liebekraft, saved the day by finding this service. Helena rocks so much--and she likes jazz too!

I know I'm a little late to the party, Helena, but I want to say thank you too. This looks like it will be a fun way to blog. Blogger is actually kind of a pain in the ass if it isn't being used for a specialized blog. At least I think so!

Speaking of Blogger, we've all been pitching in to help our Writing Sis Cie Cheesemeister work on a really cool epic full of madcap fanfic fun. I so wish I could give you the URL, but Cie has been a little vulnerable lately, and we want her to feel free to express herself. I'm just thrilled to be part of it! She loves each of her characters as if they were a real friend. I know some of you might see this and think "what a loser," but when you've had a hard life, sometimes it's kind of hard to relate to the real world. So don't judge.

My late father gave me my love for jazz and swing. He wasn't quite so keen on the funk and dazz that I came to love as well, and he definitely wasn't into the death metal that is also on my list of favorite music, but we sometimes discussed song lyrics by bands that weren't really his cup of tea. He was an English professor and was always interested in all forms of writing. I miss him terribly.

Jazzin' it Up

Hello, KHEL 666 family! I have a few things to work on. I'm in a mellower mood tonight, so I think a little experimental jazz is what's called for.

Amber Rose

Eye-popping: Amber Rose wore a very revealing outfit on the set of new movie, School Dance, in Los Angeles

The Daily Mail asks: Did girls dress like THIS at your high school?

If anyone had dressed like that at my high school, they would have been sent home.

Of course she is obviously not a real high school student.

I don't find her hair style flattering, but to each their own.

It's appalling how many people are calling a woman of average size (except for her breasts, which are rather well above average) "fat." And then we wonder why so many women have eating disorders.

Even if someone actually IS fat, what gives anyone the right to be nasty to them? There are all kinds of bodies in the world. We need to be kinder to each other.

Thank You

Dearest writing sisters, I'm glad I was able to discover a solution that worked so well when Ping let us down. Thank you so much for all your kind words! I really did just get lucky--I'm sure one of you would have discovered Posterous if I hadn't!

Love you all,

Helena

Randy Rhoads

December 6, 1956 – March 19, 1982

His death was a tragedy brought about by the stupid actions of another person. He was a beautiful person. I'm not talking about his physical appearance, although he was attractive. Everyone who spoke of him said that he was a kind and generous soul. There are far too few such people on the planet.

The damn fool of a tour bus driver, a fellow named Andrew Aycock, talked Randy and the band's hairdresser and wardrobe mistress, Rachel Youngblood, into taking a ride on a plane which he was piloting. Aycock was apparently on a toot and decided that it would be a lark to buzz the tour bus. He instead managed to clip the tour bus, smash through a pine tree, and end up crashing into a garage, where the plane burst into flames.

I am perhaps revealing a little too much about myself, but I once had one of "those" dreams about Randy. It made me sad when I woke up, not so much because I knew I'd never have him for my significant other or any such thing as that, but because it made me acutely aware that he was dead, and he shouldn't be dead. It made me feel very sad for his family. I wasn't a mother yet at that point, I was only eighteen, so thank the Powers that Be that I wasn't a mother. But I remember feeling sad for Randy's mother and knowing that the worst thing in the world would be to lose one's child.

Randy Rhoads will always be one of my favorite musicians, and his death will remain on the top of my list of tragedies caused by the stupidity of other people.

The Secret of the Internet

A Tasty Cut

RT @funnysolo When I'm depressed I cut myself.... a piece of cake.

If I had some cake, I'd say that's a damn choice idea!

Since my housemate moved in and has been helping me shop and cook, I've lost about 10 pounds simply from not eating fast food any more. I'm sure that the fact I've been doing my water aerobics more faithfully again helps as well. But I'm never going to be skinny, because you best believe that if you put that cake in front of me, I'm gonna eat it!

Life's too short to stress out about fulfilling impossible ideals.

Bon Appetít!

Keep On Keepin' Up

In keeping with my belief in keeping an open mind, I'm checking out some newer music tonight. Some might label it post-punk, some might label it emo. The only thing I care about is if I like it, not what it's labeled.

As a middle-aged person who grew up listening to what is now labeled as classic rock, I don't want to fall into the rut of listening only to the genres I'm most familiar with, or only the hits. Way to stagnate! That's why I like to keep it fresh by checking out new stuff. Sometimes I hate the newer stuff, but sometimes I really enjoy what I hear.

Follow me on tonight's journey of discovery on our KHEL 666 blog, or on the Facebook page to see what I've found for your listening pleasure!

Lily's Loves: Tartuffe's Folly

Tartuffe's Folly is a blog that you should be following if you enjoy art and have an open mind. It will take you into a beautiful realm where you will wish you could remain for eternity.

People who need not follow this blog include teabaggers, Fundamentalists, or narrow minded idiots of any other persuasion.

Meet Your New DJ!

Hi friends, it's my first night as a DJ on KHEL 666! Excitement! Trepidation! Nah, I'm gonna love it, I'm sure.

I like Modest Mouse, so I'm going to share Modest Mouse and other groups in the same vein.

Follow me on the great KHEL 666 blog, or on our Facebook page.

I'm also helping my writing sister, the one and only Cie Cheesemeister, work on her absolutely madcap story line, which she is sharing on the Rattling Bones Undead Musician Magazine blog. I can't give that URL away without Cheesy's permission, but I have to say, I am thrilled to see her back on the horse! Like me, she had been away for too long. And I'm excited to have a part in helping her make some crazed dreams come to life. The written word is powerful!

I love the arts. Life would be a far duller place without them.

The Mark of Power

If tears are the mark of power, I must be one of the most powerful people in the Universe. I have certainly shed my share and then some.

Never Give Up

Crawling Out of the Woodwork

After some bad experiences on Facebook and some major drama with so called "friends," I had decided that I really didn't want to engage in social networking except for occasionally updating my Facebook page and occasionally contributing to the Animal Anarchy page.. So I didn't do anything for a long time. But now I've flushed all the fake friends out of my life, and I'm ready to get real. Besides, my Writing Sisters have been hassling me to get on Posterous and become part of the KHEL 666 team. (KHEL 666 can be found on Blogger or Facebook.) So, here I am!

Oh yeah, one of these days I actually will get that book published too. The target is now mid-July.
