Lost Area: When Darkness Falls

Unfortunately, this fine German band has decided to part ways. I think they could have gone further, but they feel it is time to move on to other projects.
Their vocals are somewhat reminiscent of Sisters of Mercy's Andrew Eldritch. The keyboards are less "dark" than the sound preferred by SOM. I'm not trying to draw a hard comparison between the two bands, only to say that I hear some similarities.
Lost Area may be categorized as "emo," and so what? I hate genre-bashing. Good music is good music. Also, attacking people who identify as "emo" is messed up. What harm are they actually doing?
I may be an old fart, but there is a truism that should be followed in any generation. Live and let live. It's as simple as that.
Bullying is never justifiable.

WHEN DARKNESS FALLS
(Music and Lyrics by vDiva)

The night comes saving us from lies
No time to fight , no time to die
We have been blind, we closed our mind
No regrets for what's left behind

When darkness falls
We rise again
When darkness falls
The end begins
When darkness falls
We fall in love
When darkness falls
We sing this song

The night is our promised land
The day is our masquerade
There's no salvation here to find
No mercy for what's left behind

When darkness falls
We rise again
When darkness falls
The end begins
When darkness falls
We fall in love
When darkness falls
We sing this song

At the end of the day
When there's nothing left to say
When the silence never ends
When the words have no sense
At the end of the dream
When there's no lie and there's no sin
When the life comes to the end
When darkness falls

When darkness falls
We rise again
When darkness falls
The end begins
When darkness falls
We fall in love
When darkness falls
We sing this song

From First to Last: He Man Woman Hatred Club

Songwriters: Derek Alan Bloom, Matthew Good, Matthew Manning, Jonathan Lewis Weisberg

It's so hard meeting girls I respect
 In all these awful places
I'm never home for more than a week
The only people I see are either

Down on their luck, drunken girls at the pub
Or the skanky, almost hooker types that dance at the club
Why do I get dressed up to walk around saying
What the fuck? What the fuck?

At the end of the day
It matters more what you do
 Than what you say, say

I wish I knew some girls
That aspired to be more than famous whores
As long as I'm on tour
I'll boldly go where every man has been before

A blond in a short skirt
 No bra and a thong
She can be fun to make eyes at
But not bring home to your mom

I want a girl that can talk
I want a girl that can think
 Not someone I'm ashamed
Of every time that they speak

I want a girl that takes pride
In the strength of her mind
And even more so if the sentiment
 Can be justified

At the end of the day
It matters more what you do
 Than what you say, say

I wish I knew some girls
That aspired to be more than famous whores
As long as I'm on tour
I'll boldly go where every man has been before

I wish I knew some girls
That aspired to be more than famous whores
As long as I'm on tour
It's any port in the storm

Sympathy for Emo Kids

Emo is a "scene," and there is a certain style that goes along with it. People who identify as Emo like listening to variants on music which has emotive and often depressive lyrics.

Here is an example.

Check out Escape The Fate – Massacre http://www.last.fm/music/Escape+The+Fate/_/Massacre via @lastfm

People who identify as Emo tend to get put down, sneered at for being fake depressives.

Might it not be that the emo "scene" has a draw for the type of person who tends to be depressive?

These young people hear the same shit that I heard growing up as a person who had emotional problems.

"Attention seeking."

"Drama Queen."

"Just do it right next time." (after cutting my wrist)

I honestly don't give two fucks about any particular "scene." Wear your hair how you want. Wear what clothes you want. I don't care.

I don't know if I could pick out an "Emo" song from any other song that I happened to like, unless I was listening to last.fm and the song was tagged Emo. It really doesn't matter to me what label is given to a song. If I like it, I like it.

I've also discovered that I tend to like the "Emo Kids" that I've come into contact with. Some of them are depressive and hypersensitive--like I am, if I'm to be honest. But some of them are simply sensitive, deep thinking, and artistic.

Hating on "Emo Kids" just because it's cool to hate on Emo Kids is just as stupid as hating on any other subculture of people just because it's cool to hate on them. If you're scapegoating someone, then you need to check yourself. You're the one with the problem.

Cheer up, Emo Kids. This old fart is in your corner!

Here's another song for you.

Love the piano at the beginning of this one!

Hard Alternative

So to cover up the sound of my tootin', I figured I'd share some heavy alt rock with my dear KHEL 666 Krew. Just be glad that smells don't transmit over the Internet!

Follow along on our blog or our Facebook page, if you dare!

No, I'm not waking up the elderly. I'm in a remote office and I don't blast the system. If the folks need me, they page. It's a pretty cool job, really.

A beautiful and evocative piece of newer music. Give it a listen.

Keep On Keepin' Up

In keeping with my belief in keeping an open mind, I'm checking out some newer music tonight. Some might label it post-punk, some might label it emo. The only thing I care about is if I like it, not what it's labeled.

As a middle-aged person who grew up listening to what is now labeled as classic rock, I don't want to fall into the rut of listening only to the genres I'm most familiar with, or only the hits. Way to stagnate! That's why I like to keep it fresh by checking out new stuff. Sometimes I hate the newer stuff, but sometimes I really enjoy what I hear.

Follow me on tonight's journey of discovery on our KHEL 666 blog, or on the Facebook page to see what I've found for your listening pleasure!

Reject the Label

Check out Slingshot Dakota – Michael Jordan Saved My Life http://www.last.fm/music/Slingshot+Dakota/_/Michael+Jordan+Saved+My+Life via @lastfm

I don't believe in labels, and I don't believe in hating something just because it's different from the way I do things. It's "trendy" to hate on "Emos." Screw that. I judge a person by who they are, not by what they wear or the music they listen to. Plus, I've met some very nice "Emos."

It's all good.

And truth be told, I can relate to this.
