The April A to Z Blogging Challenge

Greetings, KHEL 666 Krew!

For this April's A to Z Blogging Challenge, we will be sharing a musician or band a day.
We hope you will like our choices.
But in keeping with our usual Curmudgeony, if you don't like it, we don't care!

Tard the Grumpy Cat likes KHEL 666. But she won't admit it.

In Heart's Wake Live at Surf Shop

I found this video by accident looking for something else. I love the energy of this young band, they're the real thing.
I'm 52 years old, and this takes me back to the days of being sixteen and sneaking into punker clubs via the back entrance--always good to know someone's older brother or sister who would help you out! Keep it up, you guys.

Half-Life 2 Deathmatch

Watch Fearsome play Half-Life 2 Deathmatch. These videos are great for deciding if you would like a game before buying it, or just watching if for some reason you want to kill time, or if you're lame like me and find such things fun!

A mellow and romantic mix of songs is here.

Here is a playlist for the incredible Stream of Passion. We will likely be using some of their music for our posts on the Undead in the Netherworld blog. Enjoy!

Beautiful Song Playlist from Drinking Mercury

These are favorite songs of the channel owner, plus some of his own performances. He is a Christian musician and all the songs seem to have spiritual meaning to him, though not all the bands could be classified as "Christian" bands. Who cares--enjoy the music! Let it bring us together regardless of religious beliefs.

Fire Danger

Such a tragedy. I don't know the details but I had some thoughts come to mind about greater fire danger in buildings that are poorly maintained or depreciated.
There are many people who live in sub-standard housing. The intent of my writing is not to blame those people for living in such conditions. If one is impoverished (or not even technically impoverished but nonetheless struggling financially) it is hard to keep up with proper building maintenance.
I myself live in a depreciated manufactured home. The fire dangers here are less than they might be in many homes. My furnace is not operational. I utilize space heaters in my sleeping area. The space heaters of old were very dangerous, but the modern ones have many safety features such as cool housing and a fail-safe which turns them off if they tip or overheat.
The stove which came with this building stopped working years ago. I have a countertop convection oven, a microwave, and a slow cooker. And if I were to be completely honest, I eat a lot of takeout food.
Most of us are ill equipped to go into the world and start raising a family. Unless you come from a family with a parent who is very savvy about building safety (my father was. Sadly, he died in an accident when I was fifteen, but he passed on some good knowledge for his children.) you don't know what to look for. I had some idea what to look for. I also had my older brother with me when I was looking for my first apartment. He was like a second father.
People live in poverty for many reasons, most of which are no fault of their own. Mental and physical illness are two primary reasons for people ending up in sub-standard conditions.
However, it isn't only depreciated or sub-standard housing which has fire danger. One of my cousins moved into a townhome which, while not high end, was not sub-standard by appearances. It had been built in the mid-seventies. The wiring was aluminum, which was a cost-cutting method used at the time it was constructed. It is also very risky. She and her then-husband had to spend $800 to have copper pigtails placed on the tips of the wires for safety.
This is the kind of stuff that isn't taught in schools. If your parents don't know it, the likelihood is, you won't either. And believe me, homebuilders and even regulatory agencies really do not give a shit.

Let's Blindly Play Super Robot Wars J: Part I

If you're feeling the Japan Love but aren't in the mood to watch hot anime dudes getting it on (I can't see why you wouldn't be, but Dahling, that' me) why not watch Chris play Super Robot Wars J. Bit of action, bit of fun, none of the feelings of frustration when you personally suck at the game! Also, if you've been thinking about trying the game, you can see whether or not you think it's really for you.

Just another service we provide here at KHEL 666 and Undead in the Netherworld.

Now, if someone could just make me stop sneezing, I'd be in business. I think I'm on my tenth in a row, and it's really starting to suck!

A Not So Thin Line Between Love and Hate

The theme of this poetry game is food. If you'd like to play, go here.

TRIGGER WARNING FOR STRONG IMAGES OF DISORDERED EATING

A Not So Thin Line Between Love and Hate:
The Relationship to Food With An Eating Disorder

A celebration of the good times
A gathering of family
Food brings us together
Taste the love

Lonely and misunderstood
Wishing I had a friend
My good buddy Food understands me
More likely cake than zucchini

If you want to be loved
You need to be thin
I've gorged myself to bursting
Now it's time to expel my sins

Tomorrow is another day dancing the line between love and hate
More likely hate than love

Not Young, Thin, or Pretty, but Beautiful Anyway

The Real Cie shared this picture and text on our Encouragement in a Discouraging World page.

When I was a child, the animals I loved most were butterflies and cats. When I saw this picture I thought "that's me, the Butterfly Queen!" Then with sadness I realized, this couldn't be me. I don't look like that picture. I'm not pretty, thin, or young. But what if the Butterfly Queen wasn't pretty, thin, or young? What if she was middle-aged, fat, and plain? Does this detract from the beauty in her soul? This world focuses too much on external beauty. Sometimes people miss knowing lovely people who aren't particularly pretty outside but whose souls are amazing. ~Cie~

I'm not going to clutter up Cie's message by overanalyzing it. She's right.

Bee Gees: How Deep Is Your Love

The 1969's: Double Wide

I was looking for something else but found this very cool Garage Band instead. Dig it!

We don't care what you think, we love the Bee Gees

I first heard the Bee Gees when I was nine or ten years old and went crazy for them.
When I was a young headbanger caught up in Teenage Wasteland, the Bee Gees were a guilty pleasure.
Now I'm a middle aged curmudgeon, and I refuse to feel guilty about what I like.
If you like the Bee Gees too, here's a playlist for you.

Wanda the Wannabe Storm Chaser

Once I have retired I think I will literally become a storm chaser. I've spent my life taking care of other people. In my twilight years I want to have a bit of action, bit of fun, not have to answer to anyone. My kids are grown. I intend to keep working till time to retire. My mortgage will be paid off. I don't have a husband or boyfriend, never will again, don't need to be tied down that way. Providing that nothing goes wrong with my health, that's the time for me to do what I want. And I really think that I want to become a storm chaser.
I'm not going to be one of those old people who sits around waiting to die. I'm going to be the one who looks death in the face and says "ready when you are."
In the meantime, here's a whole channel of storm chasing videos to help me keep the dream alive!

Flash Friday 55: Sleep Pod

Sometimes hope flies away on ghostly butterfly wings, which have been crushed multiple times.
I want to fly away with hope.
To cocoon myself until it's safe to wake up
And be who I really am.
But I don't think that will ever happen.
Eveyone likes clowns.
No one likes the freak behind the mask.

Share your stuff here if you want. It's a writing game by a fellow by the name of G Man, and he does it every Friday.

Note:
I don't really want to come off as an asshole to people who may be "meeting" me for the first time, but the first one who tells me I "need to be on meds" needs to go jump off a cliff. I've been bipolar probably since I was 10 years old, though I wasn't diagnosed until I was 38. I don't need any armchair psychologists trying to analyze me when I'm expressing myself during what happens to be a drop on the mood disorder roller coaster, thank you very much.
To those who might have appreciated the work, sorry for the defensiveness. It's something that I've unfortunately become rather accustomed to.
