It's A Different World

My eleven year old niece created a profile on Woozworld, which I'd never heard of before.
My sister and I monitor the kids' (niece and nephew) online activities pretty closely at this stage. This sort of thing is always harmless fun on the surface, but there are opportunities for bullying and also for creeps pretending to be kids to try and gain the trust of actual kids.
It's certainly a different world now than it was when I was eleven. I'm 48 years old. To eleven year old me, making friends via computer would have sounded like science fiction. At that age, I was into Star Wars pretty big time. I also liked the original Battlestar Galactica and I loved watching Star Trek reruns too. Having my own computer would have seemed as fantastic an idea as many of the stories on those shows to me at eleven.

Kitchen Tips: Cleaning Stainless Steel Cookware

No need for expensive chemicals. Just dab a cloth in white vinegar and wipe away the mineral deposits. White vinegar is inexpensive and safe. I also like to use it in my laundry as an alternative to bleach.

Rodja Raicevic

Rodja Raicevic was born in Montenegro in 1957 and died on October 7, 2001 from a drug overdose. A sad loss. He was very talented.
My older relatives, all dead now, often listened to music like this. It's a cloudy, drizzly day and I guess it has me feeling a bit nostalgic.
Here is a longer playlist for those who, like me, find this kind of music pleasant.

In der Mine ist die Hölle los!

Mostly, I have no idea what he's saying, but I enjoyed trying to figure it out. I like his voice. His inflection makes him seem friendly.

KHEL 666 Opinion: Terrorism = Cowardice + Evil

Hamas terrorists kidnapped and later murdered three Israeli teenagers: Eyal Yifrah, 19, Gilad Shaar, 16, and Naftali Fraenkel, a 16-year-old with dual Israeli-American citizenship.
The Israel-Palestine conflict is a terrible thing. But there is never any excuse for evil, cowardly acts such as this against innocent civilians. The members of terrorist organizations such as Hamas and ISIS are not heroes by any stretch of the imagination. They are criminals, plain and simple.
The killers appear to have been part of a Hamas-affiliated cell. However, there is evidence that the murder was not perpetrated or ordered by Hamas leadership.

Netherworld Cinema: Asterix In the Land of the Gods

The one year of French I took in junior high didn't do much to help me understand what they're saying in this film, but it has enough of a slapstick element that I enjoyed watching it anyway.
The film is based on the comic book Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods.
In the story, Caesar is attempting to convert a Gaulish village to Roman ways as he has his mansion constructed next door.

ATV Meet and Greet

Includes a couple of lessons on things not to do with your ATV, like drive it into thick, squishy mud or deep water.
It's doubtful that I'll ever ride one of these again. I last rode one when I was twenty. I wasn't particularly daring. My handicaps would probably keep me from doing so at this point.

Workers of the World: Surveyors

Ever wonder about that thingy you see surveyors using? I have. Today I found out that it's called a transit. This fellow explains how to set one up.
This page discusses the basic tools of a surveyor.
If you like working outdoors in a variety of locations, and you have a head for detail and enjoy math, surveying might be the profession for you.
Read more about surveyors on the Wikipedia page.

Citizens of Our Diverse World: Ray Collins

Australian Ray Collins is a former coal miner turned photographer. Granted, his work is beautiful, but what makes it all the more fascinating is the fact that he's color blind.
Ray is a living embodiment of the truth that one should not allow other people's perceptions of their challenges to stop them from pursuing their goals. Surely there were people who told him that a person who is color blind couldn't be a photographer.
Looking at his work, one sees that his different way of seeing in no way stops him from taking amazing photographs.
A person can learn to work with his or her challenges. It is a shame that we don't support each other more often to do so.
