It's A Different World

My eleven year old niece created a profile on Woozworld, which I'd never heard of before.

My sister and I monitor the kids' (niece and nephew) online activities pretty closely at this stage. This sort of thing is always harmless fun on the surface, but there are opportunities for bullying and also for creeps pretending to be kids to try and gain the trust of actual kids.

It's certainly a different world now than it was when I was eleven. I'm 48 years old. To eleven year old me, making friends via computer would have sounded like science fiction. At that age, I was into Star Wars pretty big time. I also liked the original Battlestar Galactica and I loved watching Star Trek reruns too. Having my own computer would have seemed as fantastic an idea as many of the stories on those shows to me at eleven.

A to Z Blogging Challenge 2015: P is for Phone

It's pretty hard to imagine life without phones. They've certainly come a long way in the 160 years since Antonio Meucci constructed the earliest telephone prototypes.

Then you also have items such as the one featured in this video, which I'll probably never own but which look terribly exciting. Who would have thought that one day there would be a phone which was also a camera and a computer? Now, if only someone could invent one that would clean my house for me!

Technology Can Stop Texting and Driving

Once when my car had to be towed, I rode along with the tow truck driver. He was texting along down the highway at 65 MPH. I'm a dyed in the wool agnostic, but I was praying to whatever powers there be that I not end up dead in a twisted heap of metal on the side of the highway because of this fellow's decision to text and drive!
