A to Z Blogging Challenge: Z is for ZZ Top

A to Z Blogging Challenge:
Z is for ZZ Top
by
DJ Spectra

That Little Ole Band formed in Houston, Texas in 1970.
Back in the day, the band consisted of Billy Gibbons on guitar and vocals, Dusty Hill on bass and vocals, and Frank Beard on drums.
Fast forward to today. Same three guys, same three chords!
I've seen ZZ Top in concert three times. My assessment, other than that they kick ass, is that they still work just as hard to please their audience as if they were new on the scene. They give every song their all, and their gratitude to the audience for their support is always obvious.
The guys are in their 60's now, but they've still got miles left on 'em! I know they'll keep playing till they can't play any more, and that makes me happy.
What a fantastic note to end this challenge on!

Blogging Challenge A to Z: T is for Testament

Dare you crank up the Testament on this Terrific T Day?

Testament is an old school thrash metal band from California. They formed in 1983 as Legacy. They have released released ten studio albums, four live albums, six compilation albums, and six singles.

Testament is a band with a hard hitting, no bullshit sound. They are about the tunes, not the flash. While personnel changes over the years have added different nuances to their sound, they always deliver the basics and never disappoint. It's little wonder they've been active in the music scene for more than 30 years. Their timeless sound will continue to please fans of the metal genre for many years to come.

Blogging Challenge A-Z: O is for Ozzy

Blogging Challenge A-Z:
O is for Ozzy
by
Spectra Ghostseeker

Ozzy Osbourne is a British heavy metal vocalist. He was the original frontman for Black Sabbath until he was replaced by the late Ronnie James Dio in 1979.
Ozzy was born John Michael Osbourne on December 3, 1948 in Birmingham, England. He has six children: Elliot, Jessica, and Louis with first wife Thelma; and Aimee, Kelly, and Jack with second wife Sharon.
Ozzy has six grandchildren.

Although he has had personal and substance abuse issues throughout his life, Ozzy is a deeply sensitive and caring individual who is devoted to his family and friends. He was devastated when guitarist Randy Rhoads was killed in a plane crash on March 19, 1982.

Ozzy's son Jack was recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. We wish him the best in combating this devastating disease.

A to Z Blogging Challenge: E is for Eddie

Eddie is a fixture in the Netherworld

A to Z Blogging Challenge:
E is for Eddie
by
Spectra Ghostseeker

This is cross-posted from our story blog, Undead in the Netherworld.
Eddie is the (in)famous mascot for the famous British heavy metal band, Iron Maiden.

Right, you got us. Eddie is not a Lovecraft/Cthulhu Mythos Monster. But he is one of our monsters. Well, he's actually Iron Maiden's monster. But we figure they wouldn't mind if we borrow him.
We've created our own mythology about Eddie.
Edward Theodore Head was born around 666 years ago in London, England. He says that he don't bloody well remember exactly when he was birthed, and we aren't going to press him for information. It was sometime around June 6, 1346, during a plague outbreak.
Eddie was something like 49 years old when he died, also during a plague outbreak. But because he was a practitioner of the Dark Arts, he quickly came back from beyond the chuffin' grave. The effects of plague and brain rot made him bleedin' well insane, and he spent a lot of years chopping people up and probably eating their brains.
Some have speculated that Eddie was Jack the Ripper, but he will neither confirm nor deny this.
Eddie stumbled into a pub one night when an early incarnation of Iron Maiden was playing. He demanded asked to be in the band. How could they refuse? So now Eddie had a steady gig, and audiences fainted at the sight of loved him.
All this love made Eddie a little bit less homicidal. As well as his gig with Iron Maiden, he is now a DJ at KHEL 666 Monday-Friday on the 7 PM to 11 PM time slot. Eddie is happily married to a fellow zombie, The Undead Sports Fan, who is a cousin of UNDEAD media's Sportin' Reportin' editor Cuzzin Hildy-Bob. They have three sons: Eddie-Bob, Itsy Lyve, and Allan.

Eddie says that it's okay to make this a cross-post. He thinks we're bloody well naff to have done this challenge bit on six blogs. We're inclined to agree with him. Of course, no-one with an iota of common sense would ever be inclined to disagree with Eddie.

Couldn't leave off this post without some Iron Maiden. Believe me, Eddie wouldn't let us get away with that kind of fuckery.

A to Z Blogging Challenge: C is for Classic Rock

A to Z Blogging Challenge:
C is for Classic Rock
by
Spectra Ghostseeker

Although we here at KHEL 666 love a variety of musical genres, the Classic Rock genre is probably our all around favorite.
Classic rock generally includes rock bands from the 1960's to the 1990's. These bands range from mid-tempo acts such as the Beatles to harder rocking bands such as Metallica.
Some classic rock fans include bands such as the Beastie Boys in their classic rock playlists. The Beastie Boys and other old school hip hop acts such as Run DMC and Public Enemy utilize hard rock tracks to rap over. Public Enemy tours with instrumentalists as well as their DJ.
If you like to rock at all, there's someone somewhere in the classic rock genre who's sure to appeal to your tastes.
Let's go with The Sweet for a sample.
If you young whippersnappers don't know who they are...
Well, listen, and then find out more!
Rock on!

A Not So Thin Line Between Love and Hate

The theme of this poetry game is food. If you'd like to play, go here.

TRIGGER WARNING FOR STRONG IMAGES OF DISORDERED EATING

A Not So Thin Line Between Love and Hate:
The Relationship to Food With An Eating Disorder

A celebration of the good times
A gathering of family
Food brings us together
Taste the love

Lonely and misunderstood
Wishing I had a friend
My good buddy Food understands me
More likely cake than zucchini

If you want to be loved
You need to be thin
I've gorged myself to bursting
Now it's time to expel my sins

Tomorrow is another day dancing the line between love and hate
More likely hate than love

Theme Thursday: Wonder

If you were wondering what Spectra wonders...
Spectra wonders a lot of things. The older Spectra gets, the less she knows.
But here is something that is on Spectra's mind a lot of the time.

Spectra wonders why there is so much hatred for people of larger body types.
You should be dancing, no matter what your body type. Without "losing weight" as a reason. Just dance to be dancing.
If your legs don't work, make your wheels dance!
If you're bed-bound, let your mind dance.

No one body type is better than any other.
Some body types allow people to do more things.
But there is zero significant difference in the abilities of healthy thin people and healthy fat people.

Spectra hated her body for years because it's a fat body. She punished it, trying to make it lose weight. The weight would go away for a while, then it would return, plus several pounds more.
Spectra stopped exercising because it wasn't making her lose weight.
It became apparent that attempting to enforce weight loss wasn't working.
Unfortunately, it took 35 years to realize this.

Now, I move. Now I eat healthier food but don't restrict calories.
I don't love my body, but at least now I'm not always berating it.

Regarding the above video:
Wasn't John Travolta great in Saturday Night Fever?
He was lithe and lean, and he could dance.
Now John is heavier.
Why should this make him the butt of jokes?
He's still a great actor.
And I bet he can still dance!

I wonder if we could all be a little nicer to each other, regardless of race, nationality, gender, religion, sexual preference, or size.
It really isn't as hard as we make it.

Sample Reading By Spectra For Spectra

[[posterous-content:pid___0]]
I hate this card. Fuck this card! I've seen this card way too much in my life.

Hello folks! Spectra Ghostseeker here, and as promised, here is a sample ten card reading. I am the querent. Reading for oneself can be difficult because sometimes objectivity is compromised.

I generally read for myself because I have had difficulty finding a reader who is a) competent, and b) trustworthy. A couple years back I found myself in a bad situation due to trusting a clairvoyant who was reasonably competent but not at all trustworthy.

The last time I paid someone else for a reading, she was a nice enough person but had no skills at all. Not naming names in either of these cases. Let's move on.
This reading will allow you to see my style. I normally charge $25 for the ten card readings, but if you make a donation of $6.66 to this blog, I'll give you a reading at that Nice Price.
Ready? Let's begin.

The card in the present position is the four of wands reversed. This shows me holding back, unwilling to take on too much in the way of challenges, feeling defeated, withdrawn, and perhaps a bit sullen and indignant. I'm holding onto the past and not wanting to walk into the future for fear that it will be the same or worse. Off to a great start, then!

The card of immediate influence is the Ace of Pentacles reversed. More of this lethargic attitude. Fear of loss keeps me stuck in a stagnant situation.

The card of goal or destiny, the best that can be achieved given the circumstances, is the Seven of Wands. This is victory if will is applied. So if I can muster the will, perhaps I can achieve the power over my current situation.

The card representing the foundation of the matter is the Two of Wands reversed. This is a failure to address a past situation which then re-entered my life and bit me on the ass once again. Loss of clarity is certainly an accurate factor. Lack of faith in myself? In spades.

The card representing the recent past events is the Page of Pentacles reversed. This represents unfavorable tidings with business or financial matters. I can't recall the last time I had favorable tidings when it came to financial matters. I've been in debt for quite some time, more sinking than swimming.

The card representing the future influence is the Lovers. In my case, I can assure you that this is not an actual significant other, as I am sworn to celibacy for quite good reasons (my mental illness.) It represents a choice that will need to be made, and I must have faith in myself in order to make it. This has always been a challenge for me, and sadly, not one that I have met very well in most cases.

The next card represents my role or attitude in the situation. This is a card that I have seen too often: the ten of swords. I've had the ten of swords to my heart too many times in the past few years. I trust no-one. I tend to escape into dream worlds. I fear more of the same, always and forever.

The card representing my environment and the people influencing my situation is the ten of cups reversed. This points again to my stagnation in my current situation. There was indeed a false and unrequited love in the not too distant past, which was actually the ghost of an unrequited love from many years gone by. Never mind as I'm not going into details. Next time this phantom shows up, I'm hitting him over the head with a shovel. He's no good, and he never will be any good. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

The card representing my hopes and fears is the Two of Pentacles reversed. This indicates a fear that I will never see anything but imbalance and disharmony, and that every time I seem to be winning I'll be losing again. Boy do I have a song for this post!

The card representing the final outcome is Temperance. It is true that I am older and wiser, and I do have Lithium on my side to keep my worse emotions in balance. I must be logical and calm, showing self-restraint and tempering passions. I must believe in my spiritual abilities and practice exercises such as meditation. Be as the monk. This I can do!

This has been a card reading by Spectra Ghostseeker for Spectra Ghostseeker. I hope you enjoyed it. Until 6 AM Mountain Time, I will do free three card readings (past, present, future) for anyone who requests one in the comments on this post.

Peace and Blessings,
Spectra

Here's the theme song for the post. This was one of my late father's favorite albums. A little bit bittersweet there.

My New Home, Home on the Web

I like my new home on Posterous, I just hope that what happens to my dear cousin and writing sister Eleonora Usher-Rigby does not happen to me! Ellie started one blog and then was never able to access it again, and had to start up a whole new account. Apparently you can never expect any help from Posterous--they never responded to El's request for help. You're on your own! But that's no different from Blogger, so it's not like I'm in a worse position with Posterous.

The move to Posterous was the brainchild of my dear cousin and writing sister Helena Philomena Liebekraft, who discovered that Ping.fm no longer supported Blogger. Since our mutual music blog, Radio Station KHEL 666, is a blogger blog, that simply would not do. Helena discovered Posterous, and the Horror Harridans have begun migration here en masse!

My cousins and writing sisters Wanda Bates and Spectra Ghostseeker are also on Posterous.

KHEL 666 also has a Facebook page.

Follow and Join us if you like! As long as you're cool and not a troll, we'd love to have you!

Come on-a my house!

Country musician Trace Adkins labels Kony 2012 Campaign a "Scam," calls fans "morons"

In a recent update on his Facebook page, Trace Adkins stated:

"I went back and looked at my tweets. On March 7, after being bombarded by Kony tweets, I posted, "Enough with the Kony bullshit." I was blasted for being insensitive. Well...Upon further investigation, I WAS RIGHT!!! IT IS BULLSHIT!!! Never question me again you morons."

Just because the charity (Invisible Children) is not spending its money in the ways deemed most effective by the BBB does not make it a scam. Mr. Adkins has every right to back whatever organizations he wishes and not back those that he doesn't agree with. However, I find calling his fans "morons" unnecessary. He could have stated his reasons why he does not wish to back this cause in a civil manner. He is a good performer but I am not terribly impressed with his actions at the moment. --Spectra

Below is the Kony 2012 video and a criticism of the Kony 2012 campaign as "misleading."

The creator of the second video provides this information and statement on her YouTube channel:

"In response to Kony 2012 video made by InvisibleChildren, I do not think the LRA or Kony is good and I do not support them. I trust the 100 U.S. military troops already sent are doing their job to find Kony, whether he is dead or alive and do what needs to be done for the sake of Central Africa. I am just promoting the education one should do before they believe everything they see. The Kony 2012 Video is not the only information you should rely on. Research. I am all for the cause, just not the video that was made."
