Soundtrack Madness: May It Be

The beautiful theme song from Lord of the Rings.

Monday's Music Moves Me: Faycin's Favorite Men Behind the Mic

A lot of Nu Metal sounds the same to me, but Cristian Machado's clear, powerful vocals rise to the top. I may be in my fifties, but I keep an open mind (and open ears) when it comes to music. I really like Ill Niño's style.
Finnish melodic metal band H.I.M. is fortunate to have Ville Valo as their front man. Ville's voice is perfect for the band's Gothic/romantic lyrics and style.

Power pop kings Def Leppard remain one of my favorite bands after many years. Joe Elliott has great vocal range. The band has suffered a lot of tragedy, but they're still putting it out there! This video was obviously made prior to Rick Allen's accident. I've seen them live. Rick is still one of the best drummers out there. The loss of his arm didn't change that.

I've seen Whitesnake in concert several times. David Coverdale is a great vocalist. He's also refreshingly lacking in "rock star" attitude. He enjoys joking around and having fun with the band and the audience. He also has enviable genes. He's now 62 years old, still has the same glorious mane of hair, and his face is still youthful. I need to find out his secret! ;-)
Great White's Jack Russell has a great voice for blues and power ballads. This is another band that has had more than its share of trouble. The Station fire was a tragedy that can never be forgotten. Guitarist Ty Longley was one of the people who lost their lives during that awful incident.

Geoff Tate is a great vocalist but apparently quite a volatile personality. He was fired from Queensrÿche in 2012 after a violent backstage altercation with other band members. I used to blast this song back when I was working as a courier. Kept the monotony of driving from putting me to sleep at the wheel!

There's so many more, but I'll keep it to six. Hope you enjoyed the set!

Netherworld Cinema: The Silence of the Lambs

I'm a fan of horror, but I prefer monsters and atmosphere to "slasher" type horror, so I never watched this movie. It was my son, who was born just a year before Silence of the Lambs came out, who recommended it to me. He's not big on slasher flicks either, but he said that the characters are so well crafted and portrayed that it's worth watching. He also said that it isn't a gratuitous "slasher flick" in spite of the subject matter, it's more of a psychological thriller.
I would have to agree on both counts.
Anthony Hopkins is utterly terrifying in this role. He's one of those actors who is more frightening when he plays "evil" because he looks so completely normal and nondescript, like someone you'd see in the grocery store. Or the liquor store, buying a nice Chianti.

KHEL 666 PSA: What's Happening To My Body?

Netherworld Ill-Health Minister Dr. Erik Schitz wants to be sure that all tween boys view this informative PSA about the exciting and not at all awkward changes happening in their bodies. This video is sure to speak to the lads in a friendly, non-judgmental voice set to a happenin' beat with groovy harmonics.

He Say, She Say, But What Does God Say?

Powerful vocals and a humorous script combine in the musical by David E. Talbert. If you like your stories without a lot of nudity and harsh language--or scenes like the one I shared last night--you may enjoy this feel-good, song-filled story.

Aldon Smith Post Game Interview from October 2012

Just a little something I found to get my busy baby brother (DJ Adam) through the off season! Aldon Smith is his favorite current Q.B. We're hoping Little Aldy can get his personal shiz together during this coming year. He's so talented, it's a shame he keeps ending up in the dog house for poor decisions off the field.
I'm beginning to think I may have made a poor decision doing one of those 30 day 50,000 word writing competitions for the second month in a row. I sailed through JuNoWriMo without hitting too much rough water, but JulNoWriMo is proving to be a much more difficult journey.
