A to Z Blogging Challenge: H is for History

A to Z Blogging Challenge:
H is for History

History, you may say. What does that have to do with music? Do you mean music history?
We've strayed a bit from our original goal here--or at least I have. I'm always a troublemaker.
This blog is a mixed bag, and history is one of the things that many of us KHEL 666 VJ's enjoy. So I'm going to share a little history with you, in case you're a history geek too.
At any rate, we have a lot more music than MTV does--and they've got music in their name!

B is for Ballad

B is for Ballad
by
Gunnar Raven

A ballad is poetry or a narrative set to music.

The standard form for a ballad is AABA form. This is also called the 32-bar form. This is because ballads were originally composed as dance tunes, utilizing couplets and refrains in alternate lines. The dancers would sing along with the tune being played.
The name "ballad" comes from "ballares," which were medieval French dance tunes. The word "ballet" also derives from "ballares."

These days there is a lot of room for variation in musical form. However, a ballad always tells a story.
The term ballad has become synonymous with love song in modern times.

I leave you with a ballad for your listening pleasure.

Here is a lovely Japanese ballad. I don't know what she's saying, but her voice is beautiful!

Hello from Gunnar

Hi, I'm Gunnar. I'm 50 years old, and like the others here, I write. I'm a woman. (Gunnar is usually a male name in the United States.) I'm still trying to figure out this game of life. I've had some very bad periods of darkness. Hopefully things will look up before I get too old!
I'm a Pagan of sorts, though I don't belong to a coven or any such thing. I'm very fascinated by ancient religions, particularly Norse mythology. I wish I looked like the picture below, but I am not even close!

You might guess that I like Viking metal. You would be right! But I'm pretty eclectic, so you never know what I might play. Again, thanks for having me here!

A little something for you all to enjoy.
